After 11 years as PDI's Executive Director, Lynn Harkin will be stepping away and another AML account executive will begin shadowing board activities and over PDI work plans at strategic planning in October. Heather Tamminga is an association fanatic and lover of timelines, budgets, sustainable living and motherhood. Heather graduated from Iowa State University with duel degrees in Journalism/Mass Communications and International Studies. She started her journey in association management as the Communications Director for the Iowa Funeral Directors Association for seven years. For over 13 years, she has been an Account Executive at Association Management, Ltd. where she serves as Executive Director for one state and one international association. Heather is a graduate of the ISAE Leadership Class (2003), earned her Certified Association Executive (2007), received the Distinguished Association Professional of the Year Award (2014) and served eight years on the ISAE Board of Directors (President: 2015–2016). Her joy comes from her faith, acting goofy with her three kids and enjoying her backyard.
Harkin made these comments at the PDI Annual Meeting, "Several years ago, I went to my boss and indicated that the physical demands of the job have been taking their toll and would need to make some changes. It made huge sense to look across the cubicle aisle at a co-worker, Heather Tamminga, who has long expressed interest in working with PDI. PDI deserves a new executive director with different ideas and new approaches and the timing is perfect with the board you have in place. You are going to love Heather; she's a great professional, a CAE, a native Iowan and very funny. We will ease into this transition in hopes that by May 1st next year, Heather will take over completely. And I'm not going anywhere - my goal is to stay in the association field and to remain with the Iowa Soybean Association. I must say how honored and grateful I am to have served as PDI's Executive Director these past 11+ years."
