Enjoy a healthy, informative, and fun walk along Sioux City's beautiful riverfront! Discover why the riverfront is an attraction to visitors and locals alike. Located along the Missouri River and featuring several distinct areas, the riverfront provides economic benefits to the city, opportunities for individuals and families to enjoy outdoor activities, and attracts the community to public spaces for small and large events. The early phases of riverfront development including the Anderson Dance Pavilion were a catalyst for revitalizing the community. Later phases added significant venues including the Lewis & Clark Interpretive and Encounter Centers, extended the trail system, and renovated the Marina area including commercial development. We will depart from the Stoney Creek hotel lobby for an approximate 3-mile walk. At the halfway point we'll stop for refreshments and you will learn about the exciting plans for construction of the next phase, an extensive $16 million redevelopment of the riverfront park.

Join us for a student-led (along with administrators) tour and presentation of the new Career Academy in downtown Sioux City. Located in a renovated building, the new Sioux City Career Academy brings together students from high schools in the surrounding area to explore any of the district's 31 career pathways. Part of Iowa's Future Ready program, each pathway is a career-focused sequence of high school courses that integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge, with a goal of connecting workforce, community, and student needs. The Career Academy has a current enrollment of 2,300 students, and because they have a shared interest in their academic area of focus, they benefit from an enhanced social experience in a real-world setting. Learn firsthand how local partnerships are helping students explore opportunities and develop their passions!

Explore how Sioux City is working to create a strong sense of place and attractions which draw visitors and "tourists in their own town" for recreation, entertainment, commercial and other mixed-use activities. Downtowns are often the "heart and soul" of a community and a healthy, viable downtown district is fundamental to a city's economic health, heritage and civic pride. Successful downtown strategies are multi-faceted but often include the development of urban park spaces, recreation and cultural amenities as well as take advantage of historic and unique community assets. This mobile classroom will include a "behind the scenes" look at the new Convention Center/hotel redevelopment, the amazing Orpheum Theatre, the evolution of a new downtown park, and other projects.

This mobile classroom will highlight how communities can help attract new residents, entrepreneurship, businesses development and skilled workforce. Economic revitalization provides an opportunity to capitalize on emerging lifestyle and working environments that can shape development, encourage small business growth, improve property values, and contribute to the livability of our communities. In this tour the group will have an opportunity to visit a co-working space, hear from local downtown businesses and walk-thru several mixed-use developments, including commercial, office, and loft residential elements.

6:00 PM
Come and enjoy the night at the beautiful, grandiose Sioux City Art Center located in the heart of downtown Sioux City (so it is within walking distance). Enjoy the festivities, appetizers and drinks, friends and colleagues. But that's not all, take part in a fun, hands-on art project that will get your creative juices flowing and having you leave with a little memento of Sioux City to take home.
